Prof. J.H.L.M. van Bokhoven is a Full Professor and Head of the Department of Molecular Neurogenetics at the Radboud University Medical Center, affiliated with the Faculty of Medical Sciences. He earned his PhD in 1993 and has since contributed over 300 peer-reviewed publications (H-index 70). His research focuses on genetic and epigenetic mechanisms underlying brain disorders such as intellectual disability, autism, and neuronal migration disorders. Utilizing multidisciplinary approaches, his work integrates genome-wide analyses, Drosophila and mouse models, and stem cell technologies to study molecular pathways in cognitive dysfunction.
- Research Highlights:
- Identified over 50 causative genes for cognitive disorders, advancing translational research.
- Developed iPSC-based models for personalized medicine in epilepsy and ataxias.
He coordinates major international projects, including the EU-funded GENCODYS (FP7) and ERARE IMPACT consortia, securing over €10 million in grants in recent years. As a mentor, he has co-supervised over 30 PhD candidates.
Current initiatives include studying chromatinopathies and therapeutic targets through hiPSC network signatures, funded by ZonMw, the Prinses Beatrix Muscle Foundation, and EU frameworks.
