Professor J. Megan Greene is a faculty member in the Department of History at the University of Kansas, specializing in the history of the Republic of China under the KMT, focusing on nation and state-building in science, economy, academia, and ideology. Her current research explores scientific and technical modernization in inland China during the Sino-Japanese War.
Her teaching includes undergraduate courses such as 'Made in China: Chinese Business History' and 'From Mao to Now: China’s Red Revolution,' as well as graduate courses like 'Modern China' and 'China in Global Perspective.' She emphasizes transnational perspectives and world history methodologies.
Professor Greene’s publications include Building a Nation at War (2022) on Sino-American technical cooperation and The Origins of the Developmental State in Taiwan (2008), analyzing KMT science policy. She co-edited Taiwan in the 21st Century (2007) and contributed to Imperialism in the Modern World (2006).
Her work bridges historical analysis with contemporary issues, addressing themes like globalization, development models, and the interplay between science and governance in East Asia.
