J. Barry Smith is a Professor in the Department of Economics at York University's Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies. He holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Economics from the University of Western Ontario, and a B.A. (Hons.) from York University.
Research Focus: His work spans econometrics, environmental economics, and labour economics, with particular emphasis on applied economic valuation methods in environmental contexts.

- Co-Chair, Great Lakes Fishery Commission Task Group on Economic Valuation (1989-1993)
- Contributing Editor, Journal of Marine Resource Economics (1992-1996)
- Secretary Treasurer & Board Member, The Biosphere Foundation (1992-2000)
