معرفی
Iwan Supit is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Wageningen University & Research within the Earth Systems and Global Change group. His research focuses on quantifying climate change impacts on agricultural systems through advanced crop modeling, with emphasis on crop yield prediction under changing hydroclimate conditions. He actively collaborates with international institutions on agricultural adaptation projects across Africa, Asia, and South America.
Supit's research spans Climate Change, Crop Modeling, and Agricultural Science, specifically investigating drought stress mechanisms, carbon dioxide effects on crop physiology, and climate model bias corrections. His work integrates field experiments with multi-model simulations to assess vulnerabilities in staple crops like wheat and potatoes, particularly in East Africa and Mediterranean regions where climate variability threatens food security.
Recent publications (2024-2025) reveal three dominant research trajectories: development of hydroclimate decision-support tools (e.g., DROP app for Ghanaian farmers), validation of crop models under extreme stress conditions, and methodological improvements in climate-crop model coupling. These studies consistently emphasize practical agricultural applications and cross-institutional data sharing through initiatives like AgMIP-Wheat.
As academic supervisor, Supit co-promotes four PhD candidates working on critical climate adaptation challenges: early warning systems for Argentine agriculture (van Meer, H.), seasonal forecasting in Thailand (Wanthanaporn, U.), salt intrusion management in Bangladesh (Bhuyan, I.), and sustainable water-agriculture modeling (Droppers, B.). He previously served as Principal Investigator for the GLORIOUS climate service project (2017-2019).
Supit operates within the AgMIP-Wheat consortium and WIMEK research institute, contributing to major datasets for wheat response modeling. His collaborative network includes INRAE, Columbia University, and Wageningen-based teams focused on translating climate science into agricultural decision frameworks for vulnerable regions.
