Ronald Hutjes

Dr. Ronald Hutjes is an Associate Professor in the Department of Earth Systems and Global Change at Wageningen University & Research. His research focuses on climate science, land restoration, and environmental processes, particularly in African and Asian regions. He leads several projects addressing greenhouse gas emissions, agricultural productivity, and hydrological modeling. He has supervised eight PhD candidates and contributed to over 150 research outputs, including peer-reviewed articles and datasets.

His research interests include land restoration's climatic impacts, such as cloud formation and local cooling in African drylands, and greenhouse gas dynamics in peatlands and agricultural systems. He also investigates seasonal climate forecasts for crop yield predictions in Southeast Asia and the interplay between land use and climate change. His work integrates machine learning, remote sensing, and eddy covariance techniques to quantify carbon and water cycles.

His recent work explores the climatic effects of land restoration, urban greenhouse gas emissions, and crop modeling under seasonal climate variability.
