Ivica Pažin is an Associate Professor at the Catholic Faculty of Theology in Đakovo, part of Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek. He holds a Doctorate in Theology and specializes in religious pedagogy and catechesis. His academic career has been closely intertwined with ecclesiastical service within the Croatian Catholic Church.
Pažin completed his philosophical and theological studies at the Faculty of Theology in Đakovo, graduating in 1993/94 with a thesis in biblical theology. He further pursued doctoral studies at Karl-Franzens-Universität in Graz, Austria, completing his dissertation on religious education in Croatian primary schools between 1991-1998.
His research primarily focuses on religious education methodologies, catechetical formation, and biblical interpretation within educational contexts. Pažin's work bridges academic theological scholarship with practical implementation in religious education systems.
Within the Croatian ecclesiastical structure, Pažin has held significant leadership positions, including serving as Head of the National Catechetical Office of the Croatian Bishops' Conference since 2002, with his mandate extended for additional five-year periods.
As an academic administrator, he has served as assistant to the head of Theology at Đakovo and as senior advisor for catechetical formation. His work demonstrates a consistent integration of academic scholarship with practical church ministry, particularly in developing religious education frameworks for post-communist Croatia.
