Stanislav Šota is an Associate Professor at the Department of Pastoral Theology, Catholic Theological Faculty in Đakovo, which is part of Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek. He has served in various academic and administrative roles including as Head of the Department of Practical Theology and New Evangelization (2018-2022) and Vice-Dean for Finance and Business Organization (2021-2022). His academic journey progressed from part-time external associate (2014) to senior assistant (2015), assistant professor (2017), and finally Associate Professor (2023).
Dr. Šota's educational background includes:
- 1994: Graduated from Faculty of Theology in Đakovo, Catholic Faculty of Theology in Zagreb, with thesis "Disease in the Holy Scripture"
- 2004: Master of Science degree from Catholic Faculty of Theology, University of Zagreb
- 2009: Doctorate from Catholic Faculty of Theology, University of Zagreb in pastoral theology with thesis "The Fate of Religious Education in the Diocese of Đakovo and Srijem from 1944 to 1960"
Dr. Šota's research interests focus on pastoral theology, particularly in areas related to marriage and family pastoral care, youth ministry, religious education, and the challenges of religious practice in contemporary society. His work often examines the practical application of theological principles in real-world pastoral settings, with particular attention to the Croatian context and the Đakovo-Osijek Archdiocese. He has extensively studied the impact of social changes on religious practice, the role of the Church in addressing contemporary challenges, and the implementation of papal teachings in local pastoral contexts.
His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on the challenges facing the Church in contemporary society, particularly examining marriage preparation, rural parish ministry, the impact of relativism on religious practice, demographic challenges in Croatian dioceses, and the implementation of Pope Francis's teachings. His work combines theological reflection with empirical research, often drawing on surveys and studies conducted within the Đakovo-Osijek Archdiocese.
Dr. Šota has actively mentored numerous students, supervising both diploma theses and postgraduate specialist theses at the Catholic Theological Faculty in Đakovo. His mentorship has covered diverse topics within pastoral theology, reflecting his broad expertise and commitment to developing the next generation of theological scholars and practitioners.
Beyond his academic work, Dr. Šota has served in significant pastoral roles within the Catholic Church, including as Coordinator of the Pastoral Center of the Đakovo-Osijek Archdiocese (2010-2020), Head of the School for Parish Associates (since 2010), and Archdiocesan Commissioner for Marriage and Family Pastoral (2010-2020). These roles demonstrate his commitment to bridging academic theology with practical pastoral ministry.
