Dr. Ivan Benaković is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Holy Scripture of the Old and New Testaments within the Catholic Faculty of Theology at Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek. He has been actively teaching since the academic year 2018-2019 and was elected to the position of senior assistant in November 2024.
Dr. Benaković's research focuses primarily on biblical studies, particularly the Book of Revelation, Pauline epistles, and biblical hermeneutics. His scholarly work demonstrates deep engagement with exegetical methods, textual criticism, and theological interpretation of biblical texts. He has published extensively in Croatian and international journals, with recent work exploring themes of hope in Pauline literature, biblical models of migration, and the theological significance of symbolic imagery in apocalyptic literature.
His research output shows a clear trajectory toward increasingly sophisticated analysis of biblical texts with attention to both historical context and contemporary relevance. His recent publications (2024-2025) reveal a growing interest in the application of biblical insights to contemporary social issues such as polarization, migration, and crisis management.
Dr. Benaković has presented his research at numerous international scientific conferences across Europe, demonstrating his active participation in the global scholarly community. His work has been presented at institutions including the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome and various theological faculties throughout Croatia and neighboring countries.
As Head of the Office for Biblical Pastoral Care of the Archdiocese of Đakovo-Osijek since summer 2022, Dr. Benaković bridges academic scholarship with practical church engagement, regularly contributing to biblical education through media appearances, spiritual retreats, and specialized training for clergy and lay ministers.
