Dr. Ivica Čatić (born 1967) is an Associate Professor at the Catholic Faculty of Theology in Đakovo, part of Josip Juraj Strossmayer University in Osijek. He serves as faculty member in the Department of Biblical Sciences and Patrology, having progressed from assistant to senior assistant, then assistant professor (2011), and finally associate professor (2017). He has held leadership positions including department head (2018-2020) and previously served as deputy head (2016-2018).
Čatić holds a Bachelor of Theology from the Catholic Faculty of Theology in Đakovo (1997), a Master's degree in Biblical Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome (2001), and a Doctorate in Theological Sciences in Biblical Theology from the same institution (2006, validated 2007). His academic journey followed his ordination as a priest in 1997 and early pastoral work in Petrovaradin and Sremski Karlovci.
His research focuses on New Testament exegesis, particularly Gospel studies and Pauline theology. His scholarly work demonstrates deep engagement with biblical texts through detailed exegesis of both Old and New Testament passages. He has published extensively in academic journals such as Bogoslovska smotra, Crkva u svijetu, and Diacovensia, as well as in pastoral publications like Vjesnik Đakovačke i Srijemske biskupije and Biblija danas. His publications reveal consistent attention to textual analysis, theological interpretation, and pastoral application of biblical texts.
His recent scholarly output shows particular concentration on the Gospel of Mark (with a complete commentary published in 2022) and Johannine literature, with systematic verse-by-verse analyses. His work also demonstrates strong interest in Pauline epistles, especially Galatians and Thessalonians, and the theological implications of biblical narratives for contemporary Christian life.
Čatić has mentored numerous students through their final theses, including Ivan Andelfinger, Andrijana Pavić, Marko Rajić, and others, primarily focusing on biblical exegesis topics. He has also served on committees for doctoral dissertations and habilitation theses at other theological institutions.
Beyond pure academic work, Čatić maintains an active pastoral presence, having served as parish priest in Ruma until 2022 and subsequently as pastoral assistant in parishes of Sot and Šid. He has conducted Bible lectures in multiple cities and maintains the popular biblical resource website sveto-pismo.net, which had over 14 million visits by May 2022.
