Ismir Mulalic is an Associate Professor of Economics at Copenhagen Business School (CBS), based in the Department of Economics. His research focuses on urban economics and transportation economics, particularly examining commuting patterns, residential sorting, transport infrastructure impacts, and housing markets. He holds a Ph.D. and M.Sc. in Economics from the University of Copenhagen and has held positions at the Technical University of Denmark and Kraks Fond – Institute for Urban Economic Research.
His key research interests include the interplay between commuting distance and wages, the effect of transport infrastructure improvements on productivity, and the implications of municipal restructuring on residential mobility. Notable studies include analyses of how long commutes disproportionately affect women with children, and the 'domino effect' of municipal mergers on housing markets and public goods provision.
Mulalic has also served as an External Lecturer (part-time Associate Professor) at the University of Copenhagen and a Visiting Professor at VU Amsterdam. He contributes to policy discussions through roles such as membership on the Copenhagen Metro and Greater Copenhagen Light Rail Review Board. His interdisciplinary work bridges economic theory with practical urban policy challenges, emphasizing quantitative methods to address spatial inequalities and transportation sustainability.
