Yue Yu is an Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of Toronto, holding cross-appointments at the UTSC Management and Rotman School of Management. Their research focuses on urban economics, economic geography, international trade, and development economics, with particular emphasis on transportation infrastructure impacts, land-use policies, and market access dynamics in China and Sub-Saharan Africa.
Key contributions include analyzing the effects of China's Farmland Red Line Policy on economic welfare, the role of high-speed rail in enhancing firm exports, and Uganda's road upgrades on deforestation and urbanization trends. Their work has received recognition including the UEA Prize (2019) and EMUEA Kraks Fond Prize (2019).
Teaching responsibilities include courses on regression analysis (MGEC11 and MGED11) at the University of Toronto. Current research explores housing supply expansion via subdivision remodeling and input sourcing in low-income economies.
