Dr. Jeffrey Cohen is Professor and Kinnard Scholar in Real Estate at the University of Connecticut's School of Business, holding joint appointments in the Department of Finance and Center for Real Estate and Urban Economic Studies. He is also a Research Fellow at the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis and Fellow at the Homer Hoyt Institute for Real Estate and Land Economics.
His research examines real estate economics with specialization in transportation infrastructure impacts, environmental economics, housing market dynamics, and urban development. Current projects investigate transit-oriented development, highway infrastructure wealth distribution, natural disaster impacts on property values, noise pollution economics, and regulatory reforms in emerging markets.
Cohen has secured over $1.45 million in external grants, including funding to study electric vehicle charging station valuation, bus rapid transit impacts (CTfastrak), commuter rail effects (Hartford Line), and connections between transit access and substance abuse treatment outcomes. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in real estate finance, principles of real estate, and real estate capital markets.
His honors include the Distinguished Member Award from the Transportation and Public Utilities Group (2017). His research has appeared in leading journals including Review of Economics and Statistics, Journal of Urban Economics, and Real Estate Economics.
