Islam Abd El-Daim is a Strategic Research Fellow at the Institute of Biological, Environmental & Rural Sciences (IBERS), Aberystwyth University. His research focuses on understanding microbial-mediated stress tolerance mechanisms in plants, particularly leveraging bacterial endophytes to enhance plant resilience under abiotic stresses. Key projects include investigating how halotolerant bacteria like Bacillus velezensis improve stress tolerance in Brachypodium and wheat with minimal transcriptional changes.
Current projects include the UKRI-funded initiative 'Role of Perennial Biomass Crops microbiomes in reducing N2O emission' (2024-2025), where he leads efforts to explore plant-microbiome interactions for environmental sustainability. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to climate action and sustainable agriculture.
Research outputs include peer-reviewed articles in Frontiers in Plant Science and collaborations on topics like holobiont dynamics and rhizobacterial stress mitigation. Media coverage includes a 2025 feature on his Brachypodium stress tolerance study.
