Isidore Lobnibe serves as Professor of Anthropology within the Department of Anthropology at Western Oregon University's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, currently on sabbatical.
His academic foundation includes:
- Ph.D. in Anthropology, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (2007)
- M.A. in Anthropology, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (2002)
- B.A. Diploma of Education, University of Cape Coast (1995)
Specializing in Ghana and West African socio-cultural anthropology, Dr. Lobnibe's research examines peasant economies, agrarian and environmental systems, labor migration patterns, political economy frameworks, social organization structures, historical methodologies, popular cultural expressions, and Black diaspora dynamics. His current ethnographic project investigates prison farms and labor systems in Ghana, building on prior fieldwork with northern Ghanaian migrant farmers in south-central Ghana and collaborative research on Dagara settlement history in Ghana/Burkina Faso.
He teaches core courses including Cultural Anthropology, Transnational Migration, Africa, Africa through Film, and Ethnographic Methods, while developing new curriculum on Transnational Islam in Europe and the US. His scholarly work integrates historical traditions with contemporary field research across West African contexts.
