Irving H. Zucker, PhD, is the Theodore F. Hubbard Professor of Cardiovascular Research at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC), specifically within the Department of Cellular and Integrative Physiology within the College of Medicine. He served as department chair from 1989 to 2019. Educated at New York Medical College (PhD in Physiology, 1972), he completed postdoctoral training at UNMC and has been a faculty member since 1973.
His research focuses on cardiovascular reflex control, sympathetic nerve activity in heart failure, and mechanisms like angiotensin II, nitric oxide, exercise training, and extracellular vesicle communication. Over 300 publications and continuous NIH/industry funding highlight his impact. Awards include the NHLBI MERIT Award, American Heart Association Established Investigator, and the Wiggers and Carl Ludwig Awards from the American Physiological Society.
Editorial roles include Editor-in-Chief of *American Journal of Physiology: Heart and Circulatory Physiology* (2013–2020), and leadership in organizations like the American Physiological Society (past president).
