Iris Burgers is an Assistant Professor of Architectural History at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam's Faculty of Humanities, Department of Art & Culture, History, and Antiquity. She holds a PhD from VU Amsterdam (2021) and specializes in 20th-century architectural history and theory, particularly focusing on energy transitions' spatial impacts. She teaches in Media, Art, Design and Architecture (MADA) and Heritage Studies programs.
Her current research project examines the Dutch gas energy transition's spatial implications (1810–2023), analyzing infrastructure development from gas factories to the Slochteren gas field discovery. She is a board member of the Environmental Humanities Center Amsterdam and series editor for the AUP Landscape and Heritage Studies Series.
