Irene Matteini

Irene Matteini is a Research Fellow at the Department of Structural, Building and Geotechnical Engineering (DISEG) and serves as an External Lecturer at the Department of Architecture and Design (DAD), both at Politecnico di Torino. Her work bridges the fields of structural engineering and architectural conservation, with a particular focus on historical concrete structures and modern monitoring techniques.

Her work examines historical construction techniques like prestressed concrete in Italy while applying modern monitoring technologies such as satellite interferometry for infrastructure assessment. She has made significant contributions to understanding the structural properties of ferrocement and corrosion protection methods, as well as the conservation management of important architectural landmarks like the Torino Esposizioni halls designed by Pier Luigi Nervi.

Her scientific contributions include research on the Halls of Torino Esposizioni and Turin Exhibition Center, studies on structural health monitoring using satellite data, historical analysis of prestressed concrete development in Italy, and investigations into corrosion protection for ferrocement structures.

Dr. Matteini actively participates in international conferences including the International Symposium on Ferrocement and Thin Ultra-High Performance Concrete Composites and the FABRE Conference on Existing Bridges, Viaducts, and Tunnels. She teaches in the Master's Degree Course in Architecture and Built Environment, focusing on Architectural Technology for the 2025/26 academic year.
