Dr. Irene Kupferschmied is a Lecturer for Icelandic, Scientific Associate, and Academic Advisor at the Scandinavian Seminar of the University of Göttingen. She also serves as Erasmus Coordinator and has held research roles since 2008. Her primary affiliations include the University of Göttingen’s Scandinavian Seminar (Käte-Hamburger-Weg 3, Room 1.113).
Educations:

Research Interests:
Her work focuses on Icelandic sagas, royal sagas, and medieval religious literature. She explores the historical context of Norway and Iceland during the High and Late Middle Ages, manuscript analysis, and the reception of Latin literature in Scandinavia. Her expertise in vowel system comparisons (German vs. Icelandic) and medieval palaeography further enriches her interdisciplinary approach.
Teaching & Coordination:
She teaches Icelandic language courses (Icelandic III/IV) and advises students. As Erasmus Coordinator, she facilitates international exchanges.

Associated with the Scandinavian Seminar at Göttingen, collaborating on medieval Nordic cultural and literary studies.
