معرفی
Ioannis Tsompanakis is a Professor in Structural Engineering with emphasis on Earthquake Engineering at the Technical University of Crete. He belongs to the School of Mineral Resources Engineering and works within the Department of Environmental Hydraulics, Coastal Engineering and Geoenvironmental Engineering. His research focuses on computational dynamics, seismic design, soil-structure interaction, and AI applications in engineering.
- 1999: PhD in Civil Engineering, National Technical University of Athens
- 1992: Diploma in Civil Engineering, National Technical University of Athens
His research spans seismic vulnerability assessment of infrastructure, vibration mitigation using EPS blocks, and life-cycle cost analysis. He employs advanced numerical modeling and swarm intelligence algorithms for optimizing structural resilience against earthquakes and train-induced vibrations.
Professor Tsompanakis has contributed to funded research programs such as TEMPUS, THALES, Heraclitus, and PENED, focusing on seismic risk reduction, piezoelectric monitoring systems, and soil slope stabilization. His work bridges computational dynamics, geoenvironmental engineering, and techno-economic analysis.
- Technical Editor of Structure and Infrastructure Engineering Journal
- Secretary of T4 Technical Committee IASSAR on Life-Cycle Performance
He supervises PhD and postgraduate students, including Alexandros Lyratzakis, Alexandra Tassigiorgou, and Alexandros Tsipianitis, and teaches courses like Structural Analysis, Seismology, and Computational Dynamics at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
