Stavroula Kontoe

Dr. Stavroula Kontoe is a Visiting Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Imperial College London, part of the Faculty of Engineering. She serves as Director of Taught Postgraduate Studies and specializes in soil dynamics, numerical methods, and geotechnical earthquake engineering. Her affiliations include the Imperial Centre for Geohazards and editorial roles for Computers and Geotechnics, Soil Dynamics & Earthquake Engineering, and Journal of Earthquake Engineering.

Dr. Kontoe holds a Diploma in Civil Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (2001), an MSc in Soil Mechanics and Engineering Seismology from Imperial College (2002), and a PhD in Computational Geomechanics from Imperial College (2006). Her research focuses on seismic performance of geotechnical structures, site response analysis, offshore wind-turbine pile dynamics, and topographic effects on seismic motion. She teaches geotechnical earthquake engineering and geotechnical hazards at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Her research spans interdisciplinary topics including slope stability in strain-softening materials and dynamic soil-structure interaction. Recent projects include axial/lateral pile response modeling for offshore wind turbines and seismic hazard studies incorporating site-specific analyses.
