Ioannis Kanellos

Ioannis Kanellos is a Researcher affiliated with the School of Education & Lifelong Learning at the University of East Anglia (UEA). He holds an EdD from UEA (2014) and has taught in secondary schools in Greece and Germany. Currently, he serves as Secondary Education Advisor (Mathematics) in Crete, Greece, focusing on students’ first encounters with formal mathematical reasoning. He is a member of the Hellenic Mathematical Society and actively contributes to the Research in Mathematics Education (RME) group at UEA.

His research interests revolve around mathematical proof, deductive reasoning in adolescents, and teacher professional development. He explores how students develop proof schemes and readiness for formal reasoning, with a focus on classroom dynamics and argumentation strategies. His work bridges theory and practice, emphasizing reciprocal feedback between research and teaching.

Ioannis has published on topics such as proof schemes, student readiness for proof, and professional development models for educators. His research has been peer-reviewed and presented at national conferences in Greece and internationally.

As part of the RME group, he collaborates on projects investigating mathematical pedagogy and student learning trajectories. His advisory role in Crete reflects a commitment to translating research into actionable strategies for mathematics education.
