Ingeborg Bähr

Dr. Ingeborg Bähr is a Researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Art History in Florence, specializing in Late Medieval and Renaissance painting and sculpture in Siena, and the development of altar retables. She earned her doctorate in European art history, classical archaeology, and medieval/modern history from the University of Heidelberg in 1982. Her career includes roles as a research scholar at the Central Institute for Art History in Munich (1982–1985), a research associate on the Siena Project at the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz (1985–1990), and later at the University of Heidelberg's Art History Department (1990–1993). From 1993 to 2018, she served as a research librarian at the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz, contributing to its renowned library and academic projects. Her work emphasizes transnational and interdisciplinary approaches to art history, with a focus on Italy, Europe, and the Mediterranean.
