Her research expertise encompasses Medieval Art History with specialization in:

- Italy-Byzantium artistic exchanges in the 13th century
- Processes of image formation and motif adaptation
- Jerusalem representations in medieval narratives
- Exodus illustrations across religious traditions
- Reception of antiquity in medieval contexts
Dr. Hoffmann currently leads research on three major projects: 'Sacred Landscapes: Between Materiality, Transportability and Narration (Jerusalem Project)', 'Aesthetics, Art, and Architecture in the Caucasus (Georgia Project)', and documentation of 'The wall paintings under the Siena Cathedral'. Her work exemplifies KHI's mission to connect historical research with contemporary debates on heritage, migration, and digital transformation.
The institute's renowned Photothek and library provide essential resources for her research, supporting international scholarly exchange through exhibitions, publications, and academic events in Florence, Berlin, and beyond.
