Matteo Chirumbolo holds a PhD in Art History and serves as an Associate Scholar at the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz (Max Planck Society). He is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Cambridge, working on the AHRC-funded project Objects and Spaces of Encounter in Renaissance Italy. His research re-centers marginalized groups in art history through analysis of Renaissance Calabrian communities.
His academic work focuses on patronage networks, cross-cultural artistic exchange, and the dynamics between cultural centers and peripheries. He collaborates with galleries in Italy and the UK, including the Fitzwilliam Museum's Italian Renaissance galleries rehang project. His research integrates geographical and material culture analysis across Turin, Savona, Loreto, and Rome.
As a Research Fellow at KHI, he contributes to transcultural art history research and participates in the Institute's academic life through publications and digital humanities projects. His expertise spans European sculpture, Renaissance visual culture, and the Holy House of Loreto's cultural geographies.
