Ines Varela-Silva is an Associate Professor in Biocultural Studies and Community Health at Loughborough University, UK. She leads the Lifestyle for Health and Wellbeing research group and is affiliated with the National Centre for Sport and Exercise Medicine. Her work integrates biocultural approaches to study health and nutrition in minority and Indigenous communities, particularly the Maya of Mexico through The Maya Project, an international collaborative network she founded in 2012 to empower Indigenous scholars and improve community health outcomes.
