Indira Iyer is a Research Professor at the Institute for International Economic Policy (IIEP), George Washington University, and a Professor at the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER), New Delhi. She is a full-time academic with a focus on international economic policy, fiscal frameworks, and public financial management. Currently, she leads the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s initiatives on enhancing public financial management efficiency and chairs macro-fiscal research at NCAER. Her expertise spans government, international organizations, and research institutions.

Ph.D., Economics, The George Washington University.
Research Interests:
Indira’s work centers on economic development, fiscal policy design, tax administration modernization, and poverty reduction strategies. She has advised national committees on direct tax reforms, international tax issues (OECD), and e-commerce policy. Her research integrates public finance with developmental outcomes, emphasizing cross-sectoral policy coherence.

- Former Chief Director of Research at the Tax Policy Research Unit (TPRU), Ministry of Finance, Government of India.
- Senior Official of the Indian Revenue Service.
- Consultant at the World Bank.
- Taught graduate courses in Development Economics at IIEP.
