Ilkka Pietilä is an Associate Professor of Social Policy at the University of Helsinki's Faculty of Social Sciences. He holds a Docent title and is affiliated with the Helsinki Inequality Initiative (INEQ) and the Centre of Excellence in Research on Ageing and Care. His roles include supervising the Doctoral Programme in Social Sciences and managing research projects such as the 'RASTI: Rajatut sosiaaliset tilat' (2023–2026) and 'Koneen säätiö Pietilä Rajatut sosiaalise' (2023–2026). Pietilä's work focuses on aging populations, social policy, health inequalities, and masculinity studies.
His research explores topics like gerontological social work, migration dynamics among older populations, and the intersection of masculinity with health behaviors and aging.
