Research Interests
- Multi-level governance of immigration and immigrant integration policies
- Anti-racism and anti-discrimination legislation
- Sub-state nationalism and its interaction with integration policy
- Multiculturalism, citizenship and belonging
- Ethno-racial inequalities in higher education
- EU-Africa migration governance and narrative construction
Her work combines policy analysis with governance studies, often employing comparative and multi-scalar approaches that link local practices to European-level dynamics.
Research Output Trends
Across 102 research outputs (2000-2025), a clear progression is visible: early work dissected Belgian regional divergences in integration policy, followed by comparative studies on Europeanization, and most recently an intensive focus on narrative policy analysis in West-Africa. Recent publications cluster around deportation governance, the impact of EU information campaigns, and the entanglement of nationalism and integration over time.

Funding, Projects & Doctoral Supervision
- Currently leads or co-leads six active projects (total portfolio: 24 projects) funded by FWO, SRP-Onderzoekszwaartepunt and Horizon 2020, including BRIDGES, WHOLE-COM, CiviBrus, ENGINE, and EDGE.
- Has supervised or co-supervised 95 advanced student works and sits on multiple PhD committees.
Laboratories & Research Teams
BIRMM unites over 100 researchers across 12 disciplines at VUB, creating a cross-faculty hub for migration and diversity research. The Brussels School of Governance centre complements this with a policy-oriented focus on migration, diversity and justice.
