Iman Lechkar is a Research Fellow at the Free University of Brussels (VUB), affiliated with the Department of Political Science and the Centre of Expertise on Gender, Diversity and Intersectionality. She contributes to the Brussels Interdisciplinary Research Centre on Migration and Minorities (BIRMM) and the Centre for Democratic Futures.
Her research focuses on intersections of Islam, gender relations, marriage ethics, and political emotions, particularly in contexts of radicalization, prison systems, and migration policies. Recent projects include studies on Belgian returnee men, civic integration in Brussels, and the role of Islamic practices in correctional institutions.
Her 25 research outputs span topics like radicalization discourse, religious coping in prisons, and feminist interpretations of Islamic thought, with collaborations across Europe. She has organized 80+ activities, including public lectures, workshops, and film screenings under the Islam Ethics and Diversity Network.
