Iker Rivas-González is a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Primate Behavior and Evolution, Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig. Previously, he earned a Bachelor’s in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of the Basque Country, followed by a Master’s in Bioinformatics at Aarhus University (Denmark). He completed his PhD at Aarhus University, focusing on primate phylogenomics. His research interests span genomics, population genetics, method development, theoretical population biology, and data visualization. Currently, he contributes to the Amboseli Baboon Research Project, integrating 50 years of observational data with baboon genomic data to address evolutionary questions.
His work bridges computational methods and evolutionary theory, emphasizing topics like phylogenetic reconstruction, incomplete lineage sorting, and genomic analysis tools. Notable contributions include the development of the TRAILS algorithm and PhaseTypeR software.
