Dr. Ignatius Ekanem is a Senior Lecturer in Business and Management at Middlesex University's Faculty of Business and Law, Department of Marketing, Enterprise & Tourism. He has been employed at the university since October 2000. His research focuses on SME financial management, entrepreneurial finance, economic regeneration, and ethnic minority business support. He holds a PhD from Middlesex University (2002) focusing on investment decision-making processes in small manufacturing enterprises.
Teaching responsibilities include leading modules like Principles of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (MGT2321-7, MGT2225), Small Business Management (MGT3017), and supervising postgraduate dissertations (MGT4900). He currently supervises two PhD students as Doctoral Researcher Award supervisor.
Key research areas include entrepreneurial learning dynamics, diaspora entrepreneurship strategies, and the impact of external factors (e.g., militancy, pandemics) on business resilience. His work bridges theoretical frameworks with practical business challenges in developing economies, particularly Nigeria and the Niger Delta region.
Publications span books like Principles of Innovation and Sustainability (2024) and peer-reviewed articles in journals such as Journal of African Business and Social Science & Medicine. His research often explores intersections between business practices and socio-cultural contexts, including BME entrepreneurship and family business succession challenges in Saudi Arabia.
