Ido Bar is a Senior Research Fellow at Griffith University's School of Environment and Science, affiliated with the Environment and Marine department and Centre for Planetary Health and Food Security. His research focuses on crop genomics, crop-pathogen interactions, and development of novel pathogen diagnostics methods, with applications in sustainable agriculture and food security.
Education includes:
- PhD in Molecular Biology and Genomics from University of the Sunshine Coast
- MSc in Genetics from Hebrew University of Jerusalem
- BSc in Aquaculture from Ben Gurion University
Current research investigates genomic aspects of fungal plant pathogens like Ascochyta rabiei in chickpeas, development of machine learning-based disease assessment methods, and bioinformatics tools for integrated disease management. His work spans molecular biology, bioinformatics, and applied agricultural solutions.
Research outputs demonstrate strong focus on plant pathology genomics (75% of recent publications), with emerging work in marine genomics (15%) and food science (10%). Article trends show increasing integration of machine learning and sensor technologies in agricultural diagnostics.
Currently supervises multiple doctoral candidates including projects on sugarcane diseases, papaya genomics, and pathogen diagnostics. Leads the 'Bioinformatics@Griffith' initiative promoting computational literacy.
