Canan Can

Professor Canan Can is affiliated with Gaziantep University as a faculty member in the Department of Biology under the Faculty of Science and Letters. Her research interests span Plant Pathology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, and Ecology, with a focus on fungal pathogens (e.g., Ascochyta rabiei, Didymella rabiei, Fusarium oxysporum), root nodule bacteria, and climate change impacts on agricultural systems. She has supervised 9 PhD theses and 36 Master’s theses, contributing to fields like nematode resistance, plant-microbe interactions, and sustainable crop management.

She has published 71 international refereed articles (15 most recent in Environment, Development and Sustainability, Journal of Agricultural Science and Technology, Phytoparasitica, etc.), with a focus on legume-pathogen dynamics, molecular characterization, and biocontrol agents. Her book chapters on fumonisin mycotoxins (2023) and climate impacts on endophytic fungi (2022) highlight her interdisciplinary contributions.

Scientific awards include book chapters in Current Approaches in Life and Natural Sciences (2023) and Theory and Research in Science and Mathematics (2022). She has secured 33 national and international research grants, including TÜBİTAK projects on chickpea resistance and Fusarium genome analysis.

Her work involves collaborative teams at Gaziantep University’s Institute of Science, focusing on biochemical and molecular techniques for crop disease management. Ongoing projects include genetic analysis of Ascochyta blight and Fusarium wilt in legumes.
