Ibtissam Bouachrine is a Professor at Smith College and a Faculty Associate at the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University. Her research focuses on women's human rights in Africa and the Middle East, with a current emphasis on technology, ethics, law, and digital rights. She authored Women and Islam (2014) and Anthem of Misogyny (2022), and is working on a third book about Muslim women's digital lives.

Her research explores how technology intersects with gender rights, including AI surveillance in Iran and cyberbullying targeting figures like Algerian boxer Imane Khelif. Supported by grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities, Harvard’s David Rockefeller Center, and others.
Awards: 2023 Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Residency, American Academy in Rome Fellowship, 2024-2025 Public Voices Fellowship on Women’s Rights. Her work critiques tech-driven oppression and advocates for marginalized voices in digital spaces.
