William Fisher is the WilmerHale Professor of Intellectual Property Law at Harvard Law School and Director of the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University. He holds a J.D. and Ph.D. from Harvard, following an undergraduate degree from Amherst College. His career includes clerkships at the U.S. Supreme Court and D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals.
Research interests focus on intellectual property law, digital rights, global health policy, and the societal impact of technology. He leads initiatives like Global Access in Action, addressing access to medicines in developing countries, and directs the Harvard Open Access Project (HOAP), promoting open research access. He pioneered the CopyrightX online course and co-founded the Berkman Online Lecture and Discussion (BOLD) series.
Key projects include analyzing pharmaceutical patent policies during the pandemic, advancing digital learning frameworks, and exploring IP challenges in entertainment and media. His work bridges law, technology, and public policy, with a focus on equitable access and innovation.
