Iannis Aifantis is the Hermann M. Biggs Professor of Pathology and Chair of the Department of Pathology at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine. His research focuses on molecular mechanisms driving hematopoietic stem cell differentiation and malignant transformation, with a focus on leukemia and lymphoma. He holds a PhD from the University of Paris and completed postdoctoral training at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School.
Research interests include genomic, epigenetic, and proteomic regulation of stem cells, leukemia pathogenesis, tumor microenvironment interactions, and immune evasion mechanisms. His lab uses advanced techniques such as CRISPR screens, single-cell sequencing, and 3D chromatin analysis to study leukemia progression and drug resistance.
Key achievements include identifying tumor suppressors like TET2 and CYLD, elucidating roles of the Notch and NF-κB pathways in leukemia, and developing therapies targeting leukemia microenvironments. Over 248 publications reflect his contributions to understanding cancer biology and therapeutic strategies. The lab collaborates extensively, with alumni and current members advancing research in oncology, immunology, and stem cell biology.
