Alain Israel is a Research Professor at the Institut Pasteur, France. He has held key roles including Vice-President for Scientific Assessment (2000) and Leader of the Cell Signaling and Activation Unit since 1992. His research focuses on cell signaling pathways, particularly NF-κB and Notch signaling, with contributions to understanding their roles in immunity, development, and cancer.
Education includes a postdoctoral fellowship at Stanford University (1980-1983) under Stanley Cohen. His work bridges molecular mechanisms and human genetic disorders, as seen in studies linking NEMO gene mutations to incontinentia pigmenti. Awards include Fellow of the French Academy of Sciences and Rosen Prize in Cancerology.
Research interests emphasize NF-κB activation machinery, Notch signaling activation via proteolytic cleavage, and ubiquitin-mediated regulation. His publications highlight discoveries in receptor trafficking, signal transduction defects, and tumor suppressor mechanisms. Alain Israel’s contributions have advanced understanding of immune signaling pathways and cancer biology through molecular and cellular approaches.
