Dr. Ian Mudway is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Public Health at Imperial College London, affiliated with the MRC Centre for Environment and Health, the NIHR-HPRU in Environmental Exposures and Health, and the Environmental Research Group. He leads the Environmental Toxicology Group and holds strategic roles in research management.
With over 25 years of experience, his research focuses on air pollution’s impacts on health, particularly early-life effects on lung development and cognitive function in urban children. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed papers and advises governments and NGOs on environmental policies.
- Research Priorities: Mechanisms of pollutant toxicity, pediatric environmental health, and public engagement through science communication.
Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate modules Tissue Pathology and Redox Biology in Human Disease, alongside supervising PhD candidates and mentoring MRC Rutherford Fellows.
Leadership roles include managing outreach for the MRC Centre and co-leading Public and Patient Involvement (PPI/E) initiatives for the NIHR-HPRU. He also chairs the Sub Board Assessment for Biochemistry (2015–2019) and contributes to Imperial’s London strategic objectives as a Faculty Champion.
