معرفی
Prof. Ian Menz is the Head of the School of Life Sciences at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). Previously, he held leadership roles at Flinders University, including Dean of the School of Biological Sciences (2010–2017) and Dean of People and Resources (2017–2021) in the College of Science and Engineering. His expertise spans curriculum design, workforce management, and change management in higher education.
- Education: PhD in protein biochemistry from the Australian National University (ANU) in the 1990s.
- Professional Development: Recipient of a Human Frontiers Science Program fellowship, working with Nobel Laureate John E. Walker at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (Cambridge, UK) on mitochondrial ATP synthase.
His research focuses on protein structure-function relationships, with contributions to mitochondrial biology, enzyme characterization, and structural biology. He has also pioneered pedagogical innovations in STEM education, receiving a Carrick citation (2007) for curriculum design. Committed to equity in STEM, he has championed diversity initiatives using the Athena Swan framework.
Key collaborations include studies on peroxiredoxins, bioremediation of chloroethenes, and wine protein chemistry. His work integrates experimental and computational approaches, with notable contributions to understanding ATP synthase mechanisms and thaumatin-like proteins.
- Awards: Carrick citation for curriculum and pedagogical design (2007).
- Grants: Australian Research Council grants for X-ray diffraction facilities (2009–2010) and parasite ecology in reptiles (2006–2009).
