Ian Higham

Ian Higham is a Research Fellow in Environmental Politics at the Grantham Research Institute of the London School of Economics. His work focuses on global environmental politics, particularly the integration of human rights into climate policy, multistakeholder partnerships, and the governance of business and human rights in climate contexts.

Research Interests span human rights and environmental policy integration, great power politics in global environmental governance, and the intersection of climate change with business and human rights. His work often examines the role of international norms and soft policy adoption in national and global contexts.

Publications (2023–2024) highlight trends in just transition litigation, the challenges of multistakeholder partnerships for sustainable development, and the application of OECD guidelines to corporate climate accountability. His research frequently addresses the legal and political dynamics of climate policy implementation.

Collaborative Policy Work includes contributions to submissions for the UN Special Rapporteur on climate change and human rights, the UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights, and the UAE Just Transition Work Programme. These efforts emphasize corporate accountability and the role of non-state actors in climate governance.

Previous Appointments include Lecturer in Political Science at Stockholm University and Postdoctoral Researcher at the Institute for Futures Studies, Stockholm. He remains affiliated with the Transformative Partnerships 2030 research project at the Institute for Futures Studies.
