معرفی
Professor Ian Harry is a Reader in Gravitational Wave Physics at the University of Portsmouth, affiliated with the Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation (ICG) and the Faculty of Technology. He serves as Deputy Director (Research) at the ICG and focuses on advancing gravitational wave astronomy through the LIGO Scientific Collaboration (LSC) and future missions like the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA). His research emphasizes detecting gravitational waves from black holes and neutron stars, refining analytical techniques, and exploring astrophysical implications of these observations.
Education:
- First-class MPhys in Astrophysics, Cardiff University (2003–2007)
- PhD in Gravitational-wave Astrophysics, Cardiff University (2007–2011)
Research Interests: Professor Harry's work spans gravitational wave detection methods, astrophysical interpretations of signals, and future observatory development. Key areas include high-mass binary black hole mergers, precessing neutron-star-black-hole systems, gamma-ray burst correlations, and machine learning applications in data analysis.
Grants & Projects: He leads the Portsmouth ICG LISA group and contributes to the Einstein Telescope initiative. His research involves collaborations with global institutions, focusing on detector characterization, signal processing, and multi-messenger astronomy.
Labs/Teams: Active in the LIGO Scientific Collaboration and the ICG's gravitational wave group, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to observational cosmology and astrophysics.
