Alberto Vecchio

Professor Alberto Vecchio is a Professor of Astrophysics and Director of the Institute for Gravitational Wave Astronomy at the School of Physics and Astronomy, University of Birmingham. His research focuses on gravitational-wave science, general relativity, and astrophysics of compact objects such as black holes and neutron stars. He leads projects using ground-based interferometers (LIGO, Virgo, GEO 600), pulsar timing arrays, and future space missions like LISA.

He holds a PhD and is a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society (FRAS). His work includes over 200 published papers and collaborations with major international initiatives such as the LIGO Scientific Collaboration, GEO Collaboration, and the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) consortium.

Professor Vecchio oversees the Institute of Gravitational Wave Astronomy, driving advancements in observational techniques and multi-messenger astrophysics. His contributions are pivotal to understanding cosmic phenomena through gravitational waves.
