Ian Elliott is a Senior Lecturer in Education and Pathway Manager for the Assessment Only Route to Qualified Teacher Status (AOR to QTS) at the University of Sunderland. He also serves on the University Board of Governors and is a Senior Fellow of the HEA. His roles include overseeing international teacher assessments, module leadership on PGCE Education, and mentoring trainee teachers. He has taught widely across education history, teacher training, and literary theory.
Education: Elliott completed all his academic qualifications at the University of Sunderland, including undergraduate, postgraduate, and professional certifications. His career spans over two decades in education, from further education tutoring to secondary teaching and university roles.
Research focuses on global education history (e.g., Spartan 'agoge', Incan education), the intersection of education and societal needs, philosophy of education, and assessment models. He co-authored papers on formative/summative assessment and supports weaker learners through targeted feedback.
Awards include HEA Senior Fellowship and a Fellowship at Teesside University. He has also served as an AQA examiner, educational consultant, and video production company owner.
