Pamela Burnip is a Senior Lecturer in Mathematics – Initial Teacher Training (ITT) and joint Programme Leader for the PGCE Mathematics Education at the University of Sunderland. She joined the university in January 2022, bringing extensive experience in mathematics education and leadership roles. Her teaching responsibilities include the PGCE Mathematics Education and BSc (Hons) Mathematics Education programs.
Before academia, Burnip earned an LLB (Hons) in 2001 and a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice in 2003, qualifying as an Associate Solicitor. Transitioning to education in 2008 with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), she held leadership roles such as Head of Department and Lead Practitioner in multiple schools across the North East of England. She has also served as a Subject Mentor for ITT students and is an expert examiner for EDEXCEL GCSE Mathematics.
Burnip’s career emphasizes supporting teacher development and fostering creative, inspiring mathematics educators. Her work focuses on bridging practical teaching experience with academic rigor, particularly in initial teacher training programs.
