Vicki Stokes is the Associate Head of School for Initial Teacher Training - Primary within the Faculty of Education and Society at the University of Sunderland. She leads the development of primary education programs including BA Primary Education, BA Primary Education with SEND, and PGCE Primary programmes. With 16+ years of primary school teaching experience, she transitioned from classroom leadership roles like History and Science coordinator to university academic roles.
Her teaching focuses include leading the Negotiated Curriculum Study module on BA (Hons) Primary Education with QTS, supporting trainees in creating practical educational resources. She also contributes to placement supervision and pastoral care as a Personal Academic Tutor.
Her research explores female engagement with science careers, science identity, and early years education. She holds a MA dissertation analyzing media influences on girls' science identity and advocates for teacher impact on student passion development.
Key leadership roles include Programme Leader for PGCE and BA Primary Programmes, which saw significant growth in student numbers and satisfaction. She also works with international PGCE programmes and assessment routes.
