Dr Ian Dawson is an Associate Professor of Risk Management at the University of Southampton's Southampton Business School. He holds a BSc in Psychology from the University of Lincoln and an MSc (Distinction) in Corporate Risk and Security Management from the University of Southampton, complemented by a PhD in 2011 exploring synergistic risks. He is a Chartered Psychologist and has over 20 years of professional experience in risk management across sectors like policing and banking. His research focuses on risk perception, communication, and decision-making in environmental, health, and professional contexts. He currently supervises three PhD students and teaches modules including Management of Corporate Security and Risk Management Dissertation at the postgraduate level.
His research interests span risk perception dynamics, environmental psychology, and global population responses. Recent work includes analyzing global population growth perceptions across cultures and examining disaster risk management in healthcare settings. He has presented at conferences on flood risk communication and peer-to-peer product returns' environmental impacts. His work has been published in leading journals such as Risk Analysis and Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes.
