Ian Carr is a Principal Lecturer in Employability at the University of Sunderland, a role he has held since 2009. Prior to this, he served as a Senior Lecturer from 2005 and began his academic career as a Visiting Lecturer in 1997. His professional background includes a 25-year career in financial services at Barclays plc, where he held roles such as retail banking team manager, SME client relationship manager, and regional learning consultant. His research focuses on enhancing graduate employability through undergraduate and postgraduate curricula, particularly exploring student motivation to engage with employability activities. He teaches modules in Personal and Professional Development, Extending Professional Competence, and Corporate Leadership, collaborating with organizations like the National Police College, Nissan, NHS, and Gentoo. Carr is a member of the Higher Education Academy and contributes to work-based learning initiatives.
