Ian C. Binns

Dr. Ian C. Binns is an Assistant Professor in Elementary Science Education and Director of the Elementary Education Undergraduate Program at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He is affiliated with the Cato College of Education (COED), Department of Reading and Elementary Education. His roles include teaching undergraduate science methods courses and leading the Elementary Education program.

Research Interests:

• Teachers’ and students’ understandings of science (nature of science, inquiry, scientists)
• Research-based pedagogy and curriculum resources
• Science-Religion Interaction in education

Advising focuses on teacher preparation and science education advocacy.

Labs/Teams: Active in the Elementary Education Undergraduate Program and collaborates with professional development schools. Leads initiatives to integrate science education with community engagement.
