Dr. Tracy Rock is a Professor in the Department of Reading and Elementary Education at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNC Charlotte), serving as Coordinator of Undergraduate Elementary Education. She holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Teaching from UNC Greensboro (1999), an M.A. in Liberal Studies (1994), and a B.A. in Elementary Education from UNC Charlotte (1991).
Her research focuses on Social Studies Education in elementary schools, Inquiry Models for teacher professional development, Service Learning, and Global Education. She teaches across undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs, including courses on instructional design, technology integration, and curriculum development.
Dr. Rock is a Faculty Fellow at the Center for Teaching and Learning, providing professional development workshops and advising doctoral students in the Curriculum and Instruction PhD program. She oversees the College Teaching Seminar and Teaching Internship courses.
Her awards include the 2023 Distinguished Faculty Award, 2015 Board of Governors’ Teaching Excellence Award, and multiple UNC Charlotte teaching honors. She has also served in leadership roles at Cornelius Elementary School and the North Carolina Council for Social Studies.
Dr. Rock has authored over 35 journal articles and book chapters, co-authored Action Research: Using Strategic Inquiry to Improve Teaching and Learning, and contributed to numerous edited volumes on teacher education and curriculum development.
