Hilary Dack

Hilary Dack is an Associate Professor and Program Director (MDLG) in the Department of Middle, Secondary, and K-12 Education at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNC Charlotte). She holds positions within the Cato College of Education and specializes in differentiated instruction, effective teaching strategies, and curriculum design for diverse K-12 learners.

Research Interests: Dr. Dack’s work focuses on preparing preservice and early career teachers for effective instructional decision-making. Her research bridges teacher education, middle grades pedagogy, and high-quality curriculum design, with a commitment to equity in general education classrooms.
She regularly publishes in journals like Journal of Teacher Education and Phi Delta Kappan, and advises policymakers on middle grades education.

• Recipient of multiple awards for teaching and research excellence, including the Edgar F. Shannon Award (University of Virginia’s top graduate honor).

Leadership & Advocacy: Current President of the National Association of Professors of Middle Level Education and a legislative advisor on K-12 education policy in North Carolina. She leads professional development workshops for educators nationwide.
